The Birch is a 2019 live-action horror web-series based on the Crypt TV short film The Birch. It is written by J. Casey Modderno, David Aslan and Dylan Mullick, directed by John William Ross and Amy Wang, and released by Facebook Watch.
The series was officially announced on June 12th, 2019. It aired exclusively on Facebook Watch and consists of fourteen episodes.[1] The first season premiered with "Through The Woods" on October 11th, 2019,[2] and concluded with "A Mother's Love Never Dies" on November 29th, 2019.[3]
On June 24, 2020, Crypt TV confirmed that the series would be receiving a second season.[4] Xaria Dotson, Dempsey Bryk, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Sheaden Gabriel, Jy Prishkulnik and Brady Romberg will reprise their roles on the series, and the season is set for an early 2021 release.[5] On March 9th, 2021, it was announced that the second season would premiere on March 26th, 2021.[6]
The second season premiered with "New Blood" on March 26th, 2021, and concluded on May 28th, 2021 with "Abandonment".[7]
Plot[]
The lives of three teenagers -- Lanie Bouchard, Evie Grayson, and Thurston Polk -- intersect around the presence of a blood-thirsty monster lurking in the woods, The Birch. Sworn to protect the vulnerable wherever she is summoned, The Birch demands a dangerous toll for her services. The teens must grapple with the grim realities of aking her acquaintance -- both as friend and foe.

- Xaria Dotson as Evie Grayson, the outcast of her town's teen population. Evie's mother died of a drug overdose when she was younger, which led her to develop a strong anti-drug stance.
- Zamira Dotson as Young Evie
- Dempsey Bryk as Thurston Polk, a member of a rather prominent family in town and one of the major drug suppliers for Evie's high school.
- Brady Romberg as The Birch, a nature spirit that comes to protect those who call her.
- Midori Francis as Lanie Bouchard, the former human self of The Birch. At seventeen, Lanie was raped by her boyfriend Thad and became pregnant. Though her adoptive parents tried to keep them apart, Lanie became obsessed with keeping her daughter and had to be taken away. She managed to break out of the hospital she was kept in by killing the doctor watching over her, and killed her adoptive parents after learning they killed her infant daughter.

- Micheal Cram as Sebastian Polk, the uncle of Thurston Polk. He gained notoriety in town by gaining control of the diesel fuel industry, even being called the Diesel King of King's Point.
- Brad Bayer as Buddy Grayson, the father of Evie Grayson.
- Marguerite Moreau as Rachel Bouchard, the adoptive mother of Lanie Bouchard.
- Haskiri Valazquez as Harley, Charlotte
- Katie O'Grady as Lily Grayson, the mother of Evie Grayson. Some time prior to the events of the present, she died of a drug overdose.
- Tucker Lipp as Gavin Polk, the ounger brother of Thurston Polk.

Production[]
The series was announced on On June 24th, 2020, it was announced that the series would be receiving a second season. On September 15th, 2020, it was announced that Xaria Dotson would be reprising her role as Evie Grayson, and would be joined by Dempsey Bryk, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Sheadn Gabriel, Jy Prishkulnik and Brady Romberg. he returning cast will be joined by Amanda Brooks (Aquarius and Nashville), Jordyn Dinatale (The Irishman), Nikko Austen Smith (Queen Sugar), and Samuel Taylor.
J. Casey Modderno will return to write with John Ross returning as directr. Jack Davis, Kate Krantz and Darren Brandl will return as s executive producers. Anthony Melton, Ben Fraklin, and Cliff Wallace will seve as co-producers. Filming is currently underway in the Pacific Northwest.[5]

- The purple flower predominantly featured in the series marketing is a crocus. They bloom in winter months, and are symbolic of eternal love, cheerfulness, and youth.[29]
