A teenage boy falling onto the floor of a gymnasium, completely unresponsive. He is covered up by a white sheet, and the camera pans out to show twelve more identical sheets covering other bodies. A headline flashes across the screen -- "THIRTEEN POISONED" -- and a photo of a memorial for thirteen high-schoolers is shown. Thirteen students were poisoned at a local high school, and all thirteen perished.
Later, a the local church holds a memorial service to honor the memories of the children. Jenni and her then-husband Daniel are seen in the audience, with Jenni leaning on her husband for comfort. Daniel tries to comfort her, but his eyes wander to Marlene, who is also attending the service. Jenni notices, and pulls away from Daniel, sitting up straight next to Jonathan, who is also attending the service. Unknown to everyone at the service, a mysterious man stands in the balcony of the church hall, surveying the scene before making a hasty exit. Several pictures of the deceased in their past are shown pasted to the bulletin board, including a picture of the boy from the beginning and his mother, Gretchen Holt.
Later that night, Gretchen Holt is at the scene of the crime, cleaning up the police tape and the cards used to label the bodies. She hesitates upon picking up the card numbered "4" and lingers on it for a moment, implying that this was the card used to number her son's corpse. On the ground next to the card, she finds a crumpled-up napkin that reads "If you yourself can not release, then it will come and take a piece".
As Gretchen examines the note, someone wearing a sheet used to cover the bodies walks past her. She whips around and turns on her flashlight, finding that there is nobody there. However, she is quick enough to turn around that she spots the stage curtains moving, implying that someone had only just escaped being spotted. Gretchen goes backstage to investigate, and opens a door to find a flight of stairs with a lit candle at the top step. As she pretends to close the door, she sees a strange man walk by and quickly enters the doorway, shutting it behind her.
Gretchen ascends the flight of stairs, and at the top finds a red fingerless glove. Upon finding nothing else in the attic, she goes to blow out the candle, only for it to reignite as The Look-See appears out of the darkness. Before the creature can attack her, the man from before pulls her away and takes her back down to the stage. He is able to get Gretchen through the curtains when The Look-See grabs his head from behind and pulls him back through the curtains. Gretchen falls onto the ground, and to her shock the man sticks his torso out from the curtains, revealing several fresh scratches on his face. The man begins to laugh as he is lifted up by an unseen force, and is then dropped on the ground and pulled back through the curtains, leaving behind a pocket watch. All is quiet for a moment, then The Look-See's hand darts out from the curtains to grab the watch, and Gretchen flees the auditorium.
Presumably the next day, the man scribbles The Look-See's mantra on the door of a bathroom stall, the demon standing behind him to make certain he does his job this time. The man exits the bathroom, and several moments later, Jenni runs into the bathroom.[2]
